Amsterdam

Lucky are the couples who get a chance to Travel for business trip together to one of the most romantic city – Paris. Being granted this advantage, we decided to put icing on the cake by planning our weekend in Amsterdam. The biggest inspiration to travel Amsterdam came from KeukenHof – The beautiful tulip garden, open only for 2 months an year. Enjoying the secrets of Red Light District is another story in itself.
Friday night, we had booked a bus from Paris to Amsterdam. The bus driver was in such a haste that we reached 2 hours
earlier than schedule. Hence our first few hours in Amsterdam were spending freezing cold night at 4AM in the morning in front of bus station. However every other bus passenger was in same situation, which provided quite warmth to the eyes 😀
At last, metro services started at 6AM. We reached Amsterdam city center. We booked a very beautiful Hotel “Roommate Aitana” a short walk from Amsterdam centrum as well as all other tourist spots.
To beat the cold, we started our day with a hot coffee followed by Dutch breakfast. If you are someone like me, who likes coffee with large amount of milk, do try the Dutch version of cafe Latte – Koffie Verkeerd. I feel there is some magic in the Dutch milk, it was one of the best coffee I ever tasted. Tourists will have no trouble roaming around the city because the tram and bus system is very efficient. There are several tour operators lined up in the streets, who would provide you tickets at discounted prices for almost all the attractions.
We visited Heineken Beer factory, a two hour tour covering the history of making this beer and indulging in the several activities they have arranged for people to enjoy.

Walking on the streets of Amsterdam with lovely canals by the side is in itself a very romantic experience. Other places to visit within Amsterdam include many museums, Madame Tussauds, exploring red light district, Amsterdam dungeon ( which we did not find scary or worthwhile to visit at all ). We tried to catch a good shot with the famous IAMSTERDAM letters but owing to the huge amount of tourists , were unsuccessful.

Next day was reserved for Keukenhof. We had booked  the tickets for garden as well as the bus service online. So we hopped on to the bus and after around 45 minutes we reached the tulip paradise – Keukenhof gardens. My eyes were just in awe by the spectacular beauty of the huge arrays of colorful tulips. The park is quite big, and it will take a whole day to be able to visit every scenic spot. They have done unique landscaping at many places in the park. There is option to go for a boat ride also where they take you through small canals among the big sprawling tulip gardens.

This was the moment when our weekend almost came to an end. We spent a very romantic night in Amsterdam. There are lot of options for a good music, food within the vicinity of red light district. We did not take many photos but I can tell you Amsterdam enticed us to the fully and it was one of the most memorable weekend.
