This trip was planned by me and my wife since long, since it was a beach trip, I had put some extra hours in gym previous week to get into lean shape.Well finally after a long wait day arrived for our Krabi trip, we booked tiger airways from Singapore, its a low cost airlines with comfy seats, over all good experience.
We reached Krabi airport around 11:30 am, weather was a mix of bit sunshine and clouds. Krabi is a small airport, since we are Indian nationals we took the visa on arrival, it will cost you 1000 Bhat per head (around 38 S$). Procedure is quick, remember to take along a passport size photo graph with you, else you will end up paying 200 bhat for clicking a fresh picture. After gathering our visa on arrival we went to the arrival hall, there you can take the bus only for 150 Bhat per head and they will drop you to your resort. Instead of paying 600 Bhat for taxi its a cheaper option.
We took the bus to resort, takes around 1 hour, while on the way, Krabi seemed very familiar to southern part of India, it reminds you of places like Goa and some other south Indian towns, altogether felt homely surroundings. In Singapore everything is very organized, sometimes you start missing that chaotic nature of a place, which I found here while going. We had booked the Peace Laguna resort, upon arrival we got wet towels and welcome drink, resort ambiance was nice, room was very big with a nice bathtub, but room lacked character since no art work.
In the afternoon since we were famished and excited for some Thai food, specifically pad thai, which caught my wifes obsession 🙂 we decided to hit the Krabi town looking for restaurants, to our surprise we found lot of Indian restaurants, all of them keep on calling you inside for the food. We gave in to one such request and had lunch at Bombay magic, food was nice with lot of spices. After a heavy lunch we decided to hit the Aonang beach.
Aonang beach has a distinct look specially due to a backdrop of mountains on one side, the beach is very shallow, we could walk long way inside with water still till our knees.
Later we explored more of shops near Aonang beach and had awesome dinner at an Indian restaurant, thai rasoi, there prawn tawa was just amazing, I would definitely recommend this dish.
——–Day 2 PHI PHI——–
Next day we woke up pretty early since we had booked a ferry boat to PHI PHI islands our next destination, you can book ferry for 300 Bhat per head. It’s a cheaper option (lots of shops near Aonang beach). Ferry company will pick you up from hotel, takes around 2 hours to reach phi phi island. Phi Phi was nice, the coastline had very clean water, like amazing blue waters.
The resort we had booked, phi phi natural resort, was unfortunately on the other side of the island with no road access. Only option for us was to take the taxi boat or wait for hotel ferry for 4 hours (that also cost 200 Bhat), for taxi boat you need to shell out 1200 Bhats, you can bargain up-to 1000 Bhat, since we were tired we went for taxi boat.Tip: Please don’t book resorts on other tip of island, will lead to unnecessary spending and time.
Reached the resort, rooms were standard, had a mosquito mesh, unique for us,the resort claimed to have a private beach but it is very rocky, so we went to the other nearby beach. It had white sand and clear blue waters, it was amazing, I also spotted a jelly fish luckily I was far, else sting could hurt. Night time me and my wife had a beautiful romantic beach walk and nice dinner with fire show provided by beach resort, that fire show was quite amazing.
—- Day 3 Back to Krabi——
Since we had only 3 days, this third day we decided to go back to Krabi and spend some quality time at resort, eat some good food, and do some souvenir shopping. We took the ferry back from phi phi to Krabi town,
Tip: Don’t book the bus or taxi in advance from ferry to your resort, they overcharge. You can always go on local taxi for 50 bhat. Nothing much to do in Krabi town, we headed back to our resort Bansanai resort, this resort was by far was the best, there rooms had a amazing charm, beautiful oil scents, washroom was very unique, and the balcony sitting area was too good, specially if its raining, you could smell the aroma of that forest.
Then there swimming pool is located at a amazing backdrop of small mountain. I would strongly recommend to book here, we regretted that we didn’t book it for two day. Evening was eventful, we did some shopping, my wife has a fondness for lights and candles, we bought them, remember you can bargain a lot in Krabi, usually they quote high, you can bargain more than half.Day ended with a nice dinner.
Next day fly back, again you can book taxi or bus on sharing basis back from hotel to airport for 150 bath per head,no need to go for expensive hotel cabs.
To summarize it was a nice refreshing trip, lots of sun and tan 🙂 good spicy Indian and Thai food, beautiful beaches. Would suggest Krabi in off season 😉
